Blue French Bulldog puppy with pink flowers — AKC registered breeder Miami French Bulldogs South Florida

By Dalia Amar | Miami French Bulldogs | AKC Registered Breeder | 10+ Years Experience.

Bringing a French Bulldog into your home is one of the most exciting decisions you can make. They are charming, affectionate, and endlessly entertaining. But finding the right breeder — one you can truly trust — is just as important as choosing the breed itself.

Florida has no shortage of people selling French Bulldog puppies. The challenge is knowing the difference between a thoughtful, responsible breeder and someone who simply has dogs available. After more than 10 years breeding AKC French Bulldogs in South Florida, I have seen both sides of this industry, and I want to help you make a decision you will feel good about for the next 10 to 12 years of your dog's life.

Here is exactly what to look for.

1. Ask About Health Testing — and Get Specific

Health testing is the single clearest indicator of how seriously a breeder takes their program. A reputable French Bulldog breeder in Florida should be able to tell you precisely what tests have been done on their breeding dogs, not just give you a vague answer like "they're healthy."

For French Bulldogs specifically, genetic panel testing is essential. At Miami French Bulldogs, all of my breeding dogs are tested through Animal Genetics using their French Bulldog Full Disorder Panel. This 6-test panel screens for:

  • Canine Multifocal Retinopathy Type 1 (CMR1) — an inherited eye disease

  • Cystinuria Type 3 (variant 2 and associated marker variant 3) — a kidney and bladder condition particularly important for intact males

  • Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) — a progressive neurological disorder

  • Hyperuricosuria (HUU) — a condition that causes urate stones in the kidneys and bladder

  • Juvenile Hereditary Cataracts (JHC) — inherited early-onset cataracts

Beyond genetic testing, my breeding dogs also receive full veterinary health evaluations that include heart auscultation, patella checks, and a breathing assessment. French Bulldogs are a brachycephalic breed, meaning their airway structure deserves close attention. I want to know that every dog in my program has a healthy heart, sound knees, and is breathing comfortably.

If a breeder cannot give you this level of detail, that is worth pausing over.

2. Visit (or Virtually Tour) Where the Puppies Are Raised

How a puppy spends its first 8 weeks has a direct impact on its temperament, confidence, and ability to bond with your family. Puppies raised in a home environment — exposed to everyday sounds, human interaction, and the rhythm of family life — are better prepared for the world than those raised in a kennel or outdoor facility.

At Miami French Bulldogs, every puppy is born and raised inside my home. There are no cages, no kennels, and no separation from human contact. My puppies grow up on the couch, in laps, and underfoot in the kitchen. By the time they go home with their families, they already know what a home feels like.

Ask any breeder you are considering: where do the puppies sleep? Who handles them daily? Are they kept inside? The answers will tell you a great deal.

3. Look for AKC Registration

AKC registration is not just a piece of paper. It means the breeder is accountable to a recognized registry with standards, and it provides you with documented proof of your puppy's lineage. Reputable French Bulldog breeders in Florida should be able to provide AKC papers for both parents and register the litter accordingly.

Miami French Bulldogs has been an AKC-registered breeding program since 2014. Every puppy comes with full AKC registration documentation.

4. Read the Reviews — All of Them

A breeder's reputation is built one family at a time. Before committing to anyone, read their Google reviews carefully. Look for patterns: Do families mention health, communication, and ongoing support? Do they come back for a second puppy? Are there any concerns about responsiveness after the sale?

Miami French Bulldogs has earned 63 five-star Google reviews from families across the country. I am proud of every single one, and I encourage you to read them before reaching out.

5. Watch for These Red Flags

Knowing what to avoid is just as valuable as knowing what to look for. Be cautious if a breeder:

  • Cannot name the specific health tests they perform

  • Has puppies available at all times with no waitlist

  • Pressures you to decide quickly or pay a deposit before you have had a real conversation

  • Will not let you see where the puppies are raised

  • Uses a Gmail address with no real website or social media presence

  • Cannot tell you anything about the parents' temperament or health history

None of these things alone is automatically disqualifying, but a pattern of them should give you pause.

6. Ask About Support After Your Puppy Goes Home

A truly reputable breeder does not disappear the moment the puppy leaves. They are available to answer questions, provide guidance on feeding and care, and remain a resource throughout your dog's life. They also stand behind their puppies with a written health guarantee.

Every Miami French Bulldogs puppy comes with a health guarantee, and I personally stay in touch with my families long after homecoming day. Many of my buyers have come back for a second — and even a third — puppy. That kind of loyalty means more to me than any marketing ever could.

Finding the Right Breeder Takes a Little Time — and It Is Worth It

The right French Bulldog breeder will welcome your questions. They will be transparent about their program, proud of their health testing, and genuinely interested in finding the right home for each puppy — not just any home.

If you are searching for a reputable French Bulldog breeder in Florida, I would love to connect with you. I have been doing this for over 10 years, and every puppy I place represents everything I believe responsible breeding should look like.
